An estimate is a hypothesis, not a target
Every calorie and water figure on this site is derived from equations fitted to groups of people. They describe an average of people who share your inputs, and you are not that average. For calories, an individual can sit roughly ten per cent either side of the resting estimate; for water, there is no equation worth the name in the first place, only rules of thumb with adjustments.
That is not a reason to ignore the numbers. It is a reason to use them the way any estimate is used: start there, hold it steady for a couple of weeks, measure what actually happened, and adjust. After that fortnight your own data is better than any calculator, because it already includes everything the calculator could not see.

Common questions
Why do two calculators give me different calorie numbers?
Because they use different equations and different activity multipliers. A spread of a few hundred kilocalories is normal and fairly reflects the uncertainty; anyone presenting a single exact figure is hiding it.
Do I need to weigh my food to use these?
No. Weighing for a week or two is a useful calibration exercise if you have never done it, because portion estimates drift, but it is a measuring instrument rather than a lifestyle.
Is the eight-glasses-of-water rule real?
No one has found a study behind it. The likely origin is a 1940s recommendation for total water intake of about 2.5 litres a day, which explicitly noted that most of it comes from food — a sentence that got dropped along the way.
